EAEU Compliance Required for Electrical and Electronic Products

Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia form the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The new EAEU Technical Regulation TR 037/2016, effective from March 2020, prohibits the use of the same six substances (lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers) restricted under the EU’s RoHS directive. This means two different economic regions are unified by similar compliance rules for the production and export of electrical and electronic equipment.

This new regulation introduces two pathways for compliance:

  1. Testing according to national directives.
  2. Utilizing a quality control system based on EN 50581 or IEC 63000 standards.

Compliance checks will be conducted both in the market by surveillance officers and at the border by customs officials, ensuring the product is properly registered in the EAC database.
