Insights > Bis Certification Footwear – India
Effective from July 1, 2023, new compliance standards for the footwear sector will be enforced in India. The Indian Ministry of Commerce, through the DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade), has established new parameters under the new certification system, which all footwear brands must adopt for the manufacturing pro-cesses of footwear sold in the Indian market.
The QCO (Quality Control Order) encompasses various types of protective and professional footwear, as well as sports footwear (from general use to professional use) and all open footwear (sandals and slippers).
Our Support
Obtaining this certification, which also includes the inspection of manufacturing facilities by the Indian Government, is a complex process. It requires time and can directly impact production processes. Only footwear that meets the stringent Indian Standards can obtain the ISI mark, necessitating the development of a rigorous quality control system for fin-ished products and materials. For brands, not obtaining this certification means exclusion from a profitable and rapidly growing market.
In the Indian market, footwear without BIS CERTIFICATION will be illegal, and any shipments are at risk of being blocked at customs and facing heavy penalties.
At Analytical, we can provide companies with the appropriate support and training to obtain this certification. Through Analytical’s FASHION HUBs located in the territory, it is possible to establish a strategic partnership, enabling the company to be guided step by step in the process of updating and aligning with the new Indian standards.
