The amendment updates the <em>Furniture (Quality Control) Order, 2025<\/em>, which establishes mandatory quality and certification requirements for certain furniture categories placed on the Indian market.<\/p><p>The new Order introduces a temporary exemption from BIS certification requirements for certain imports, helping businesses complete shipments that were already planned before the applicable requirements took effect. The amendment, <strong>S.O. 5950(E)<\/strong>, applies from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.<\/p><h3><strong>Conditions for the exemption<\/strong><\/h3><p>An import may qualify for the exemption only if <strong>all three deadlines<\/strong> are met:<\/p><ul><li>The <strong>Purchase Order (PO)<\/strong> was issued on or before <strong>12 August 2026<\/strong>.<\/li><li>The <strong>Bill of Lading (BL)<\/strong> was issued on or before <strong>30 November 2026<\/strong>.<\/li><li>The <strong>Bill of Entry (BOE)<\/strong> was issued on or before <strong>31 December 2026<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Within <strong>seven days of customs clearance<\/strong>, the importer must submit to the <strong>Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)<\/strong> copies of the PO, BL and BOE, together with supporting documents. The submission must be made on the importer\u2019s letterhead and signed by an authorised signatory.<\/p><h4><strong>What the amendment means for businesses<\/strong><\/h4><p>The new provision gives furniture businesses exporting to India an opportunity to complete qualifying shipments without first obtaining BIS-ISI certification for those imports.<\/p><p>The exemption is <strong>limited to consignments that meet every stated condition<\/strong>. It does not postpone the certification requirements in general: the Furniture QCO continues to apply to products within its scope that do not qualify for the exemption.<\/p><p>Businesses should therefore review each shipment against the relevant dates and prepare the required documents for submission to BIS.
