Here is what is changing, which companies are affected and which exemptions remain available.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h6><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From <strong>19 July 2026<\/strong>, large enterprises operating in the EU may <strong>no longer destroy unsold clothing, accessories and footwear<\/strong>. It is the first concrete measure of the ESPR, the regulation redrawing the ecodesign of European products, and concerns <br \/>economic operators <em>producing<\/em>, <em>importing<\/em>, <em>distributing<\/em> or <em>marketing<\/em> such products in the EU market.&#8217; <\/span><\/p><p>For decades, destroying unsold stock has been a simpler, and often cheaper, solution for the fashion industry than managing it.<\/p><h4 aria-level=\"2\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">The regulatory framework<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;134245418&quot;:true,&quot;134245529&quot;:true,&quot;335551550&quot;:0,&quot;335551620&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:299,&quot;335559739&quot;:299}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4><p>The<b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> ESPR <\/span><\/b>(Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) has been in force since 18 July 2024 and replaces the previous Ecodesign Directive of 2009, expanding its scope well beyond energy products.
